After going through four rounds of IVF, two emergency c sections (at 30 and 33 weeks respectively) along with two month-long NICU stays, Juliane is now physically struggling to raise the two children for which she tried so hard. For the majority of her life, she has been extremely healthy and active as a dancer, bodybuilder and runner. She has taught dance classes for 23 years and was a personal trainer for several years. After the birth of her second daughter, she knew almost immediately that something was just not right with her body. She has now been dealing with this serious health issue since January 2018. It's a condition brought on by an excess of the relaxin hormone. It causes extreme ligament and tendon laxity resulting in pain throughout Juliane's whole body. Her movement is now severely limited. It may even cause early onset osteoporosis and osteoarthritis. As stated by Juliane, "I used to be the type of person that would push through any type of pain to accomplish a physical task, but this is a completely different type of pain." It has taken a huge toll on her daily life and raising her two young children. Over the past two years, Juliane has visited numerous medical doctors all over the east coast, and has gone through thousands of tests in search of the proper diagnosis and treatment. After a massive amount of time and cost, she was disappointed to find that most doctors resorted to giving her various medications and sending her on her way. According to Juliane, "I found out later that a lot of these pills only made my situation worse. I've finally found a doctor that has treated cases like mine…extreme ligament laxity that affects the entire body." However, this doctor is located in Fort Myers, Florida, at Caring Medical. Juliane lives in Lancaster County, PA. Since this is alternative medicine, nothing is covered by insurance. Each visit costs thousands of dollars. Juliane has been traveling to Florida once per month to get treatments from Dr. Hauser. There is no time frame as to how long she will need to continue flying to Florida, in order to receive these treatments. Each time Juliane receives her monthly treatment, it requires two roundtrip flights to Florida, because she cannot go alone due to her weak condition after the painful process. The cost of flights and hotel expenses, even without the cost of the treatment itself, is creating a growing financial strain for her and her family. Due to her deteriorating physical condition, unfortunately, she has not been able to carry out her passion of teaching dance classes or help others attain their fitness goals as a personal trainer.
