Who is Karen Hoffman? – her friends call her Super-Karen. Why? Well she is strong, smart, compassionate, a good mother, and has a great sense of humor.  She came into my life in 1992 when she relocated to ‘Rohnert Park to attend Sonoma State University.  The home she was going to live in while attending school was not going to be ready in time, so she stayed with my family for a few weeks.  During that time my younger son, Bob, came home from serving in the military and the rest is history – she has been in our lives ever since, bringing two beautiful grandchildren into our lives and keeping Bob in line.

Just when you think you have the universe figured out it lets you know that we truly have no control; that life presents it's challenges.  Karen was recently diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer and only people that have gone through it can really understand.  The early stages of diagnosis, surgeries, doctor visits, physically exhausting medical therapies and actions plans derived from their findings can turn your world upside down. In the quiet times she is faced with the reality put in front of her, and like Super-Karen has been known to be, her attitude has been amazing. Good news, challenging news, positive results, allergies to medicines all contribute to only something that Karen can truly understand.  Through it all she keeps her sense of humor and endures.  Fortunately, she has family and friends to support and help whenever possible.  

We are putting together this Go Fund Me for the Hoffman family to try and offset some of the mounting medical costs that insurance does not cover.  Karen is undergoing chemotherapy, facing at least one and possibly two more surgeries.   Since this is Stage IV (liver involvement) there will most likely be treatments for some time to come.  Plus ongoing tests to determine the status of the disease.
