Super Human Anxiety - a cinema therapy short

Donation protected
COMING MID-MAY 2024 (Mental Health Awareness Month)
A cinema therapy tool designed as a catalyst for creating productive and healing conversations around teen anxiety, “Super Human Anxiety” is aimed at benefiting teen mental health programs across the U.S. and beyond.
  • “Super Human Anxiety” is about a teenage girl who thinks she’s hiding her strong emotions well. But, when her elevator breaks down, fate forces her to out her secret.
  • The short length of the movie (8-min) + expert-created educational tools are designed to encourage teens to openly talk about their anxiety.

When an organization or mental health professional uses the film as part of their cinema therapy sessions, they are utilizing a therapeutic approach to helping teens gain insight into their own choices and thoughts. It can strengthen a teen’s capacity to regulate emotions and build resilience for managing difficult situations.

The story of "Super Human Anxiety" was written for –
  • Teens to see characters facing similar struggles, feel a sense of empathy, and foster a sense of belonging. The goal is to reduce feelings of isolation that can make a teen feel like they are alone in their struggles.
  • Therapists to use the narrative of the film to help guide teens to analyze the story structure and underlying message.
  • Parents and other support networks to watch the film and gain understanding of feelings and challenges in new ways.

In order to have the best outcomes, what happens AFTER a viewing of the film is key. Productive and meaningful discussions can help teens and support networks discover new perspectives and learn healthy coping strategies. That’s why we’re also developing:
a) thought-provoking post-screening questions and
b) informative tools to use when hosting a screening of "Super Human Anxiety".

To complete the film and help us build these professional post-screening tools, WE NEED YOUR HELP!

1. WE NEED FINANCIAL CONTRIBUTIONS TO HELP TAKE US OVER THE FINISH LINE

DONATE right here right now at Go Fund Me

We have an aggressive POST-PRODUCTION schedule that has us launching during Mental Health Awareness Month in May. To complete the film and make this very important timeline, we are working with:
  • Editors (editor of the footage and online editor who makes the visuals look great for the big screen)
  • Visual Effects Designer (perfecting the special effects in the film and creating new VFX shots)
  • Color Correction Designer (making sure the camera shots are consistent in lighting, shadowing, and color)
  • Composer (writing the music used in the movie)
  • Stock Footage (visual content we didn't shoot and have to purchase to help tell the story)
  • Sound Designers (sound editor and sound mixer to design the recorded sound and special effects sounds)
  • Subtitles/Captioning (to make the film more accessible for all)
  • Marketing Team (to build a web presence and movie collateral)

2. LOOKING TO GROW OUR IMPACT PARTNER FRIENDS!

We need more experts (like Give an Hour) to help us raise awareness about the film and provide resources for movie viewers and mental health professionals. FREE to mental health organizations and providers, the movie + expert-created resources are aimed at strengthening a teen's capacity to regulate emotions, building resilience for managing difficult situations and adversity, and promoting supportive social networks.

Thank you so very much for your support!!

WE'VE COME A LONG WAY (so far)!!
We spent much of 2023 raising the funds and securing partnerships needed to:
  • build the set with an elevator that had movable walls and floors we could dent and smash through + detailed elements like buttons, air vent, and doors,
  • build special effect objects our main character breaks, bends, snaps, and cracks,
  • hire a talented cast and crew (& obtaining union approvals during an industry strike),
  • procure a complete wardrobe for each actor,
  • purchase insurance for the production,
  • feed the cast & crew with all sorts of healthy yumminess, and
  • shoot the movie with Canon C70 Cinema 4K cameras for a quality film product (and giving us the flexibility during the edit).
