Super Beaux

Beaux Anthony Richard came into this world on April 5, 2014. Everything about him was (and still is) perfect. As he got older, it was hard not to love his playful, fun-loving, sweet spirit.

At the beginning of 2015, the family started to notice bruising around Beaux's eyes. This was not a concern at first because Beaux was just learning to walk and as all babies do, he'd often become unstable and fall down. One morning Beaux woke up and his mother, Amanda, noticed the bruising appeared worse and his right eye was blood-shot in the outer corner. Amanda decided to take him to his regular pediatrician, who was not sure what was causing his eye to appear this way and recommended Amanda take Beaux to Children's Hospital in New Orleans. It was there that Beaux, at 11 months old, was diagnosed with Stage 4 High Risk Neuroblastoma--a cancer that was attacking the nervous system in his body. They learned the cancer was in his abdomen, in the orbits of both eyes,  his liver, his adrenal gland, his bone marrow, and in his blood.

For two years, Beaux fought cancer HARD. So hard that he earned the nickname Super Beaux. Every staff member that was fortunate enough to care for Beaux, fell madly in love with him. Despite what scans and labs showed, you'd never know that Beaux's little body was attacking itself. He never skipped a beat. At any given time, you'd often see Beaux running up and down Children's 4 West hallway with his mommy, daddy, or one of his grandmothers following behind while pushing his IV pole. He has always been an avid fan of Cars, Paw Patrol, rescue vehicles, and trucks of any kind. If he did take a break from playing and running, he'd snack on cheetos, peppermints, and scrambled eggs or watch his favorite YouTube videos on his iPad. Beaux has always been full of life, quick-witted, and loving. If you tell him you love him his reply is always, "I love you too, moon and back."

In 2015, Beaux went through several rounds of chemo, followed by surgical ressection of his abdominal tumor, a piece of his liver, and many lymph nodes. Then he recieved high dose chemo and a bone marrow transplant, followed by abdominal radiation. In January 2016 Beaux started chemo and immunotherapy simultaneously, followed by cranial radiation. He has had over 100 blood and platelet transfusions, multiple surgeries to place/replace central lines or a port, and have bone marrow biopsies. He has also had multiple experimental treatments.

All treatments showed initial progress, but eventually his cancer would return. Beaux relapsed three different times.

Recently, right before his 3rd birthday, his family got the devastating news that he was no longer responding to any treatment and the best option was to begin palliative care and keep him comfortable for the remainder of his precious life. Those who know and love Beaux all say that his illness and treatments have NEVER slowed him down. It was not until this past week that everyone has seen a change in Beaux. He no longer has much energy to run, play with his trucks, go outside, or do any of the activities he used to love for longer than 10-15 minutes per day. It was decided as of April 12th, 2017 to combine hospice care with the palliative care that he is receiving. Time has always been of the essence, but now it is more so than ever. The cancer is spreading day by day and inevitably we must do the unfortunate task of preparing a funeral. I'm reaching out today for the family to alleviate any additional hardships they may face. The goal is to allow Amanda, Dru, and the rest of the family to enjoy the time they have left with Beaux without having to worry about finances. All donations will go to any remaining medical expenses, comfort care, and funeral costs.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Please keep the prayers coming and continue to be Beaux Strong!
