This fund will help me get the best possible medical care so that I can regain full health and remission from stage IV lung cancer. I'm Angie Hobgood Montague, mother, wife, sister, daughter and passionate survivor! I'm 48 years young and not ready to give up any ghosts. My motto is #Sunshinestrong. Share it! Take a stand with me for radical remission. That's my goal.

This fund was created by my dear childhood friends, Kelli Cox-Blagg, Mindy Mallady, Shelly Swearingen, and Joanna Laffey so that I can focus on getting well, care for my family, and help other survivors and not worry about medical expenses. Thank you - what an amazing and generous group of friends! I'm truly blessed.

The Sunflower is my favorite! #Sunshinestrong

Right now, getting well is a full time job. I am doing everything possible to meet this challenge and it's a real challenge - game on! In the past 9 months since my diagnosis I've adopted a completely new lifestyle  and together my holistic approach is helping  me on my road to recovery. My last two PET scans have shown that my treatment plan is working!

My path to wellness includes many treatments and cures including: chemo therapy (every 3 or 4 weeks; and yes, it saps the life out of me sometimes), eating a plant based diet (food is medicine), relaxation and mindfullness, accupuncture, massage, herbal supplements, essential oils, social connectedness (love, laughter, friends and family abound!) and gratitude

I'm grateful for all the wonderful people who are helping me on this journey to recovery and discovery! My medical team. My family and friends have all been amazingly supportive - thank you!

I have five beautiful children who are all in different stages of young adulthood. Sports and physical training are a big part of my life and I am slowly regaining my physical stamina. I love to watch my daughter Morgan play volleyball, basketball and cheer! She's a chip off the 'ol block for sure. My two eldest sons are studying physical therapy and both are serious about weight training and fitness. My husband Tim is an endurance runner and that's an activity that we both enjoy...I can't wait to get that back!

This diagnosis is considered life threatening but I see it as a golden opportunity to pursue greater health. I embrace a positive holistic approach. I'm determined to succeed on this mission to live a long, healthy life and be a support for those with a similar prognosis who struggle to find hope.
Angie and Friends - 1980

Angie & Tim in Michigan, 2011

How it all began...
In February of this year, I randomly discovered a lump by my collar bone.  Within 30 minutes, I was at a walk in clinic starting my journey to find out what was wrong.  Much to my dismay, I was ultimately diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer.  It is non-small cell adenocarcinoma.  Primary lung tumor with spread to lymph nodes of chest and neck.  No one knows why people like myself, a 48-year-old  non- smoker, who lives a healthy active lifestyle, develops this deadly disease.  Lung cancer is serious business but this campaign is for life, love and the pursuit of a graceful recovery.  I'm very fortunate to have an amazing support team including my family, friends and healthcare professionals at Sarah Bush Lincoln Cancer Center in Mattoon IL.  I'm so grateful to Dr. Abdur Shakir and the nurses who have helped me on my road to full recovery.  Conventional medicine tells me that chemotherapy is the only option for medical treatment of this type of cancer.  As I have researched and learned on my own, there are many additional healthy steps I can and must take to pursue a radical remission.  This diagnosis is considered life threatening but I see it as a golden opportunity to pursue greater health.  I embrace a positive holistic approach that includes a plant based diet, exercise, supplements, acupuncture and a spiritual connection.  I'm determined  to succeed on this mission to live a long, healthy life and be a support for those with a similar prognosis who struggle to find hope.
Past records prove I am not a quitter.  I'm thankful to have had exceptional teammates in the past and I'm looking to recruit more.

2015
Angie's purpose is clear.  The ball is in our court.  The cost of one chemotherapy treatment is mind boggling. Even  with good medical insurance, expenses are piling up.  Please help us contribute to this financial campaign to cover medical bills.  We thank you in advance for the generous support to Angie and her family.  We can all be on the sidelines cheering her to a victorious outcome.  Go Purple!

Sincerely,
Kelli Cox-Blagg, Mindy Mallady, Shelly Swearingen, Joanna Laffey
