Help Sunshine Get A Reliable Van For Her Very Important Job!

Currently, I am on month two of having no reliable transportation after using Lyft for over 60 days, totaling well over $3,000 for myself and my organization combined, just to be able to show up to work. I am in dire need of a reliable vehicle so that I can continue my work supporting disabled artists, students, and volunteers in their communities. Although the organization I work for has provided Lyft services for the times I have been on the clock transporting associates, I will not be able to go on that way as my job requires that I have a vehicle, and their accommodation is not sustainable for me for even a few more days of getting myself to and from associate residences, work sites, campuses, and office locations. The money I am requesting from my community will be for repairs for my current vehicle and to eventually acquire a reliable previously owned vehicle.

The following is a request for help that I drafted with my associate after we happened upon the Helpful Honda People after a few stressful days of utilizing Lyft while my van was undergoing repairs. Unfortunately, I never heard back from Honda, and my van went on to require more repairs that I cannot afford, especially after using Lyft and tipping the wonderful drivers who got me to work safely.

“I am a Honda driver and a support worker for adults with intellectual disabilities. My Honda Odyssey is having lots of issues that I can no longer afford to repair. My client and I ran into the Helpful Honda People cleaning up a local park, and after hearing our story, we were encouraged to apply for a helping hand! The clients at our organization depend on support workers like myself to shadow them in their communities as artists, students, and as members of the workforce. I also have three children, and we really need reliable transportation to get around, to get out of the city for fresh air, and to visit family and friends. Having my Honda out of commission even after recent extensive repairs is really upsetting, and I want and need to keep my job and be reliable for my clients and my family. We could use a Helping Hand! Thank you!”
