The short story: 

My beautiful, eight-year-old, only child Claire has been diagnosed with a rare and inoperable form of brain cancer, a tumor located on her brain stem, isolated to an area of the brain known as the "pons." This condition, called Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma, or DIPG--has no known cure. Only about 350 cases or so are reported in the US alone, and the prognosis is devastating. 

Despite our absolute hope and prayer that Claire's tumor was diagnosed incorrectly via medical imaging (a hope that is statistically plausible at a <1% chance), we know that it's still necessary to help ensure Claire has the "Most Best Days"--as in, let's try to make sure that at least once a day, Claire can say, "this was the best day ever." 

As part of all this, we've also needed to make some changes to our home, save up for the travel required during the second-phase of her treatment, and of course to cover all the out-of-pocket expenses that insurance simply won't cover.
