Jo, John and Jacob are appealing to family and friends.
Many of you will remember some years ago John and I spent a lot of time in Luxor Egypt and moved there for a year to volunteer at the Sunshine Project Children’s home and many of you also supported the UK charity that funded the Project before it sadly closed.
The time is fast approaching for a long awaited and much dreamt about trip to visit our Egyptian family.
All those gorgeous babies that we cwtched, cuddled and taught all my best dance moves to and who in return showed us what really was important in life, are growing up into teenagers and young adults and facing new and different challenges, finding their way to becoming independent in life.
The Sunshine village where the boys lived and knew as their home has sadly closed at very short notice this year and the younger boys are residing in new accommodation together with carers.
Approximately 30 of the girls remain in the girls home in Ahmed Esmet Street.
We plan to visit this autumn and are appealing to family and friends to help us raise some money to help and support in the places it’s needed most for the Sunshine family after this sudden change in their home environment and family situation.
Two of the most urgent needs are a new cooker for the younger boys accommodation which will be available for all the boys in the family to use and a deep freezer for the girls home which will also provide food storage for the boys. The freezer will enable locally donated food to be frozen to avoid waste and preserve supplies for longer.
The cost of the two items is estimated to be approximately £400- £450 each depending on the exchange rate at the time. This will provide a fair standard of cooker and freezer to ensure it lasts the test of time, delivery, fitting and guarantee of fitting.
If we are able to raise above and beyond the cost of these items we will be able to see hands on what is needed most and go out shopping locally and purchase anything that will help make this new step towards the big wide world and becoming independent adults more manageable.
We have set up a Go Fund Me page for anyone who wishes to help us to help the family and we will use our Facebook pages to show where every penny is spent over the course of our trip and receipts will also be published for transparency.
We only have a few weeks to pull something together, truth is I had hoped to do a sponsored Pembs Coastal Path walk but getting diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis really put a massive spanner in the works on that plan.
So after several years, John, Jacob and I are appealing and asking for your help again, every £1 will help. Great oaks from little acorns grow as they say! £1. =64 Egyptian pounds today.
Thanks so much
Jo, John and Jacob xxx
