Sunrise Centre Uganda - Ultrasound Machine
Donation protected
Hi Everyone,
We are a group of seven Bachelor of Science in Nursing students, from Selkirk College and College of the Rockies in the Kootenay region of BC. We have the privilege of participating in an international nursing placement as part of our 4th-year of studies. We will be traveling to Uganda in January for five weeks to visit the Buiga-Sunrise Centre in Banda Kyandaaza, Mukono District. The Sunrise Center houses Grace Family Clinic and Sunrise School within its gates.
Sunrise is a not-for-profit grassroots organization which provides health care, education, and outreach services to members of the surrounding rural community. The Sunrise Center's Grace Family Clinic offers affordable healthcare to local community members which includes prenatal, delivery, and postnatal care, family planning, immunizations, laboratory services including HIV testing, patient counsel, low-cost pharmaceutical services, and child health checkups. The center is a staple of the community through its provision of compassionate and affordable health services that save lives and improve the health of the community as a whole.
A need identified by clinic staff that will further support community health is for a portable ultrasound machine. It is best practice in medicine that all expecting mothers receive an ultrasound screen during pregnancy to support positive health outcomes. The clinic provides care during pregnancy and labor support to many mothers. They deliver on average 5 infants a week, and in 2019 had 953 prenatal care service visits accessed by mothers. The addition of an ultrasound machine will significantly support the prenatal care of patients and allow the center's health care providers to better monitor fetal health and development. Enhancing the diagnosis capabilities available at the clinic will reduce the need for referrals to larger, more expensive health centers, which patients cannot afford or travel to access.
With your support through donations we will work with staff at the Sunrise Center to purchase a portable ultrasound machine that will meet their identified needs. As well, any remaining funds will be used to purchase medical supplies needed by the center. The Sunrise Center views health as a basic human right and through the support of donors such as you they can continue to provide quality, equitable health access to the families within their community.
A donation of any amount is greatly appreciated and will help us reach our goal for this amazing organization!
