Sunny Rae’s Open Heart Surgery

Hi our names are Travis and Ashley Lear. We are the parents of two amazing girls, one of which we adopted in March of last year. She is our beautiful 2.5 year old Sunny Rae who we’ve had since she was 8 days old! Miss Sunny was born with a moderate VSD, along with quite a few other things, and sadly the time has come where she finally needs open heart surgery.

We were told from the get-go the hole would not heal on its own due to its location, however shortly after her discharge from the nicu at 6 weeks old the cardiologist was amazed that it was in fact healing on its own! We remained hopeful while monitoring the hole, but unfortunately a valve started being sucked into it. We got the news five days before our wedding at the end of October that it has finally began forming bad tissue and that we will need to schedule her open heart surgery.

The surgery was originally scheduled at UCSF for the beginning of January, but unfortunately we have caught sickness after sickness and it postponed the surgery. Her surgery is now scheduled for the end of March. If everything goes according to plan we will hopefully be discharged within 6-14 days. 

We do not like asking for help, but unfortunately this has begun to feel like a situation where we don’t have a choice. We completely understand if people can’t help financially right now with the holidays that just passed, and life being so hard on all of us, but more than anything we appreciate everyone’s love, support, and prayers! Thank you all, and we look forward to the days where this is just a memory.
