Help End Sunny’s Years of Pain

Today was supposed to be Sunny’s last day.

Sunny is a beautiful 7-year-old Cockapoo who was taken to the vets today to be put to sleep.

With her was something that completely broke our hearts — a drawing from the little girl who loved her, intended as a final goodbye to her dog.

But Sunny didn’t die today.

Instead, she was surrendered into veterinary care, and Colchester K9 Rescue has agreed to take responsibility for her.

We collect Sunny from the vets on Tuesday.

Now we desperately need your help to give her the treatment she has needed for far too long.

Sunny has been suffering for years

Sunny has been living with severe chronic ear disease, repeated painful infections, polyps within her ears and allergies that desperately need proper investigation and long-term management.

Her family loved her, but because Sunny’s problems were considered pre-existing conditions, they were faced with veterinary costs they simply could not afford.

Sunny originally came from a rescue, and her family understood that ongoing support would be available from the rescue she came from. Unfortunately, that support was not available when Sunny needed this treatment.

Her condition continued to deteriorate until her family believed they had run out of options.

This wasn’t a family who simply didn’t want their dog.

They were preparing to say goodbye to a dog they loved because they could not afford to make her well.

We couldn’t let her story end there.

Sunny needs TECA surgery on BOTH ears

Sunny’s ears have reached a point where another bottle of drops or another temporary course of treatment isn’t going to undo the damage already caused.

TECA stands for Total Ear Canal Ablation.

It is major surgery in which the chronically diseased ear canal is surgically removed. Depending on the disease present, surgery can also involve accessing and cleaning the middle ear to remove infected or abnormal tissue.

Years of repeated inflammation and infection can cause an ear canal to become thickened, narrowed or obstructed, creating a cycle of infection, inflammation and pain that medication may eventually be unable to resolve.

For dogs with end-stage, irreversible ear disease, TECA can remove the source of that chronic infection and pain.

And Sunny needs it on both sides.

This is major surgery.

But for Sunny, it also represents something incredibly simple that most dogs take for granted:

Comfort.

The chance to sleep without painful ears.
The chance to stop living through repeated infections.
The chance to simply enjoy being a dog.

Her allergies will also need proper investigation and ongoing management. TECA can deal with the severely diseased ear canals, but it doesn’t make the underlying allergy disappear.

We aren’t looking for another temporary fix for Sunny.

We want to finally break the cycle she has been trapped in.

We need to raise £3,000

Sunny’s current veterinary estimate is £2,786.05.

We have therefore set an initial fundraising target of £3,000, with the remaining funds helping towards the associated veterinary care and the investigation and management of her other medical needs.

For a small, foster-based rescue, almost £3,000 for one little dog is an enormous amount of money.

But after hearing that Sunny was at the vets to be put to sleep, we couldn’t walk away.

Reaching our target will allow us to move forward with the major treatment Sunny desperately needs.

£5 gets her closer.
£10 gets her closer.
Every donation matters.

And if you genuinely cannot donate, please share her fundraiser.

One share could put Sunny’s story in front of the person who gets us over that final hurdle.

❤️‍ Today was supposed to be goodbye.

We cannot undo the years Sunny has spent suffering.

We cannot erase what her family went through today.

And we cannot forget that a little girl drew a final picture for her dog because she believed she was saying goodbye forever.

But we can change what happens next.

Sunny is still here.

On Tuesday, we will collect her from the vets and her journey with Colchester K9 Rescue will begin.

Today was supposed to be the end of Sunny’s story.

Instead, we want it to become the beginning of a life without the relentless ear pain she has endured for so long.

Please help us raise £3,000 for Sunny.

She has suffered for long enough. Now it’s time to fight for her future.
