Honoring Sunny: Funeral Fund for a Beloved Community Angel

Yung Sun “Sunny” Gustavson was a shining light in her family and in her community of Sunland, California, where she was known for her abundant kindness, faith, and love. In the early morning of October 5, 2023, Sunny tragically died after being struck by a hit-and-run driver who fled the scene. Sunny had been on her way to Yum Yum Donuts, where she frequently spent her mornings buying pastries to later bring to the homeless, and offering prayers, blessings, and hugs to the customers, who looked forward to her morning greetings.

Mother to two daughters and grandmother to six, Sunny loved her family with all her heart. She was proudly Korean, an ordained member of her ministry group for nearly 20 years, and preached her faith for over 40 years. Fiercely independent, Sunny worked through her own hardships to passionately serve her community. She was well known and beloved by many.

Due to the sudden and unexpected nature of Sunny’s passing, we (her family) are asking for assistance in covering a portion of the funeral service and burial costs. Any contributions that exceed the funeral costs will be donated to a local charity to continue assisting others in Sunny’s honor.
