Susan Nall is one of a kind!! Her smile and laughter not only lights up a room but transforms it. She has a way of making bad situations not seem so bad. From the second I met her I knew I was lucky. She is not just special to me but to so many people.
Her diagnosis of colorectal cancer has rocked our world. As we were finishing up our master's in nursing, she said to me, "watch me get sick after all of this". I cannot believe it actually happened. Susan was diagnosed in June 2017 with Stage IV colorectal cancer with metastasis to her lung and liver. Of course being the strong person she is, Susan took the diagnosis better than anyone else and was ready to get started with treatment.
Susan has spent her whole nursing career caring for patients who have suffered some form of this awful disease and now it was hitting home. She has been an RN for 15 years where she worked at The Christ Hospital for a couple years caring for adults with cancer before moving to the bone marrow transplant floor at Cincinnati Children's. She is a smart, caring compassionate nurse who would do anything for her patients. She knew first hand what was ahead from watching many patients and families endure a tremendous amount of pain and sadness. As much as you try to prepare yourself...it is never enough.
Her path has not been easy and has had too many bumps in the road to count, getting bad news has become a norm. She has had over 20 rounds of chemotherapy and radiation along with multiple other forms of treatment that have taken such a toll on her mind, body and spirit. She continues to fight and is trying to find a way to beat this very stubborn disease.
As one of her best friends and watching what she has had to go through, I am writing this to ask for help. She has spent her whole life taking care of others and now it is time we take care of her. Susan was terminated from Cincinnati Children's on 12/1 because of this horrible illness. Susan is a very independent, prideful person that would never ask anyone for help. She is trying to put the pieces together for her future but in the meantime she needs assistance. I believe even the smallest gifts are meaningful.
Thank you all for reading Susan's story!!!
Your love, support, and prayers are very much welcomed and appreciated.
