Sunfish Musical (matriarchy vs patriarchy in Ancient Greece)

Hi I’m Matt Coldrick , I’m an Artist/Composer/Producer from England .
A project I’ve been pitching for over the last 4 months has fallen through and rather than retreating into jobs that don’t use the best of my skill ,I’m rising to the challenge and will use this opportunity to spend winter writing the script and score to a Musical/Rock Opera.

The Sunfish Trilogy Set in the Greek Cycladic Islands around 2200 BC, a Matriarchal Goddess culture has kept the Islanders in sacred relationship with the rhythms of nature for thousands of years. This bond is now threatened by growing commercial interests in the Islands resources by traders from Athens who are supported by Pirates from Mykonos.

The administration of Athens announces a competition to find the most lucrative trade amongst the Cycladic Islands. A confident merchant called Phineus has found the sacred marble statuettes used ritually by the Islanders and sees the opportunity for extracting the marble and using it at scale in Athens Architecture. He believes this will win him the competition. The Parians are already opposed to Athenian attempts at commercial invasion but are a smaller and weaker population. In defiant desperation and through ritual, they ask the Gods for help.

Poseidon, who has recently lost control of Athens to Athena and wants revenge, answers the call and after summoning a mighty storm which sinks the first merchant ships arriving off the shores of Paros he sends his old friend and emissary Katoo, a wise and ancient Sunfish, to the shores of Paros to secretly find ways of helping the Islanders against Athenian interests. Katoo befriends a young shepherd called Xander and through their connection Poseidon forges the will of the people to rise up against the Athenians.

This story explores the battle between Matriarchy and Patriarchy and the consequences of choosing material gain over humanities sacred relationship with the natural world.
