At Dance City in the North East, the staff team are finding additional ways, voluntarily and outside their job, to come together with communities, and provide them with nutritious food.
We are all too aware of the huge surge in demand at foodbanks throughout 2020. They all do fantastic work, and we are going to continue supporting them.
We will be gathering on Sunday evenings through the first part of 2021 to cook hot meals and distribute them to people in need.
Working with the West End Refugee Service, we will reach between 30-50 vulnerable people every week.
So why are Dance City staff voluntarily doing this?
We are extending the work of the many organisations who are active in this area already and complementing, what they do.
Cooked meals offer the chance to use fresh vegetables which provide alternative nutrition to dry packed and long life foods.
Dance City is a publicly funded organisation. Our facility is made for public benefit and whilst the COVID 19 pandemic has paused our theatre activity and public classes, it does not mean that our facility should be redundant.
Dance City team are inspired by the everyday ways in which the public and arts organisations can help the community, which we are all part of.
Dance City Volunteer Team have secured Dance City’s Kitchen for free and our team are training in food hygiene. We need your help to raise £1500 to pay for the ingredients and distribution to provide over 350 cooked meals.
£3 will help pay for and distribute a meal for one person.
£12 will help pay for and distribute a meal for a family of four people.
£36 will help pay for and distribute a meal for an individual for 3 months.
£125 will help pay for and distribute meals for over 35 people on a single Sunday evening.
January is a challenging time for people, after a surge in generosity in giving around Christmas, and we understand the need for this initiative continues into the New Year.
We invite you to support us in this initiative to provide hot, nutritious meals to the community. If you are able to provide a hot meal for someone, we would appreciate your support.
Please donate and help us to provide hot meals to our community.
Thank you.
