Hi everyone. To those who know me and who know Sundae (the sweetest cat in the world), you are aware that Sundae has an extreme chronic case of Eosinophilic Granuloma. Believed to be linked to a cat's immune system, Eosinophilic Granuloma is a skin condition described as inflammation and lesions occurring in areas like the lips, mouth, and the paws. In Sundae's case, it is everywhere for her...
Since adopting Sundae in 2021, her chronic condition at the time was dormant. By 2022, her situation worsened to the first cases resulting in bad ulcers and swelling around her lip. For 3 years, I have been treating her with various vet visits and medication that can be treated temporarily. Atopica, for one, is a great fix that can solve the swelling and ulcers for a time being. However, the more I give her, the more it suppresses her immune system.
The best possible solution I know to treat this long term is to provide her a dermatologist. Every vet that I have visited in NY has recommended it. I am eager to provide her this care, but the times I have scheduled the visits, I didn't have the funds to cover the costs. Costs that can add up to $1000... with a flat rate to come is at $400 while scanning, medications, prescription foods, and more add up the rest of the costs. This is an existing diagnosis for Sundae, so insurance will not be able to cover any further research and treatments for her. So I have to seek out help.
To those that have met Sundae, you know how special she is. I truly don't know a sweeter, goofier, and kind-hearted cat than her. Right now, it breaks my heart to see her so uncomfortable. If you have any means to provide support for Sundae and her well-being, it will be most appreciated. Not only will this goal help for the visit, it will help provide me a cushion to supply other needs for the future like follow-up appointments and consistent medication as I work my way to help save more.
Sundae's dermatologist visit is scheduled for September 23rd at AMC Schwarzman Animal Medical Center in New York, NY.
