Getting Us Back On Our Feet

As many of you know, on March 14th,2022 our home on wheels, both truck and trailer, we’re totaled in an accident.
In November we picked up our brand new 2022 16’ Scamp trailer. We lived full time in our trailer with the intention to save money for the next few years to buy property and build something of our own. It’s a hard road for young people to make it in this current economic situation. The scamp was our answer to get a leg up on life.
Jacques, our 10 month cattle dog Pip and myself spent the year prior living in the back of our truck, a beautiful and trustworthy Toyota Tundra (AKA “Crumpy”), in order to save money while we waited for our little scampy to be built.
A year later we picked up our scamp and spent 4 months on the road visiting family and making friends along the way. We even got engaged! It was the most incredible experience, I don’t regret a minute of it❤️
Three days ago we were driving a remote section of the Alaska Canada hwy in the Yukon Territory to get back home to Juneau, Alaska. In this part of the world roads can be quite rough and remain snowy a majority of the year. Although our truck was built to handle it while coming over a crest in the highway our trailer hit ice and started to fishtail violently. It took us into oncoming traffic staring down a semi truck. Jacques managed to get us out of the path of the semi but the trailer spun us around and we hit the snow bank. The truck rolled and threw pip from the truck. Our hearts stopped when we saw the truck almost land on her. Luckily we were both wearing our seatbelts so we walked away mostly unscathed. But both the truck and trailer are totaled. We are so thankful for the kind folks that helped us stay safe and made sure we could get back to civilization. We are beyond grateful that we are all alive and we didn’t lose pip but are devastated that we lost everything of ours that had value.
We currently have nothing but the few things we were able to salvage from the crash.
With work contracts starting mid-April, we are desperate for a new truck to replace our poor Crumpy, who we learned will not be covered by insurance. All funds will go toward getting us back on our feet, finding temporary housing and most importantly a new truck to live out of.
We have debated if making this gofundme is the right decision because it feels uncomfortable to ask for help. But we’ve realized that these are desperate times and that’s what community for. Any help even if it’s just sharing our story is so very appreciated. Words cannot describe how much everyone’s support and love has meant to us in one of the darkest times of our lives.
We would like to say a very special thank you to the incredibly kind Canadians who helped us casually flip, tow and console us at the initial crash site. We would’ve also been completely lost if it weren’t for Shaun who towed our scamp to Whitehorse and Tor who towed us and the truck.
Hopefully we’re able to cut our losses here in Canada sooner than later and see you all back in Juneau soon❤️
Side note: if anyone has any leads on a clean low mileage Toyota Tacoma or Tundra let us know, we’d be happy to take it off your hands!
