Sun Valley goes to AJ2025

My name is Rosa and I am a Scouter (Leader) with the 1st Sun Valley Scouting Group Our Scouting Group, located in Winnipeg, Manitoba, provides a safe and engaging environment for youth aged 5 to 26 to develop their skills, values, and leadership abilities. We offer a range of programs for both boys and girls, including Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Venturer Scouts, and Rover Scouts.

I have a son age 5 in Beavers and a daughter age 9 in Cubs. Because our Troop needed another Scouter in order to run the Scout Program, I am a Scouter in our Scout Troop (aged 11-14). Scouting Programs are run solely by Volunteers, some that are parents of kids in the program and some where their kids have aged out of the program but they stayed to help keep their local program running, because without Scouters, the program couldn’t run.

The mission that drives Scouts Canada is to help develop well-rounded youth, better prepared for success in the world. We do this by enabling thousands of young Canadians to engage in safe, youth-led, adventurous programs in hundreds of communities across Canada.

We are honored to have the opportunity to send four Scouts aged 12 to the Australian Jamboree, a global gathering of Scouts from over 150 countries. From Canada only 30 youth are attending and we are the only ones representing Manitoba. This incredible experience will provide them with countless benefits, including:

* Cultural exchange and global knowledge

* Lifelong friendships and connections

* Enhanced language skills

* Increased creativity and innovation

* Appreciation for their own culture and the diversity of others

* Boosted self-confidence and independence

The total cost for each participant is $6,000.00, including travel, accommodation, meals, and activities. In order to apply to go to the Jamboree, each applicant had to commit to fundraising a MINIMUM of half of the cost to go which does not include travel expenses but rather the event itself. The reason for this, is that they want to make sure that the youth who WANT to go, get a spot. They don’t want parents to just pay for everything because, well, the youth won’t appreciate this opportunity as much if it’s just handed to them. So, with 4 youth attending, myself and another Scouter, we need to raise a MINIUMUM of $18,000.00. However, we recognize that many families face financial constraints, and we are seeking sponsorship to support their efforts.

There are SO MANY more reasons why Jamborees are truly amazing.

The youth that are going are gung-ho to fundraise. We have been selling Chocolate Almonds for a couple of months now. They are going door to door but also the Rivercrest Inn in West St. Paul has allowed us to come and sell Chocolate Almonds every Thursday evening during their Chase the Ace and most Thursdays, all 4 are in attendance, THEY ask their parents if they can go. We have done a few craft sales where the youth have made paracord items (gear clips, keychains, zipper pulls), birdhouses, birdfeeders, fire starters, etc. They have spent a few weekends at these craft shows selling these items. We also recently hosted a Pancake Breakfast!

The youth have been working very hard to achieve this goal and they have definitely earned the right to attend, so we are asking for your support to help get us there for these kids to experience this AMAZING once in a lifetime opportunity.
