Sumo, the ancient national Sport of Japan, is experiencing a surge in popularity outside of Japan, with particularly noticeable growth across Europe, UK and USA. In 2024, Sumo na hÉireann was formed to meet the rising demand in Ireland and provide a pathway for Irish Wrestlers to compete in this ancient and fascinating style of wrestling.

In 2026 Ireland qualified its first official sumo team in 20 years at the British Isles Sumo Championships, hosted by Sumo na hÉireann in Belfast co. Antrim.

Now, Team Ireland needs your help getting to Baku, Azerbaijan and back again. Any and all contributions will go towards the athletes travel costs and competition fees.

£1000 covers the entire cost for a single athlete, travel included.

We have 5 athletes competing.

Our athletes are committed to fighting for Ireland and are committed to doing so out of their own pocket.

They are already sacrificing their time, their livelihoods and their bodies. We are asking you to do what you can to help relieve the financial burden.

Any contribution, no matter how small, is greatly appreciated. By donating, you are joining Team Ireland on this journey.
