My name is Dean Coulstock,

 

I am a mountaineer, weightlifter, and technologist.

 

And even more importantly to me, I am a proud aboriginal man.

 

A little backstory:

 

Growing up, I was always married to the idea that with enough preparation and determination, anything could be possible with the right amount of discipline.

 

I remember the first mountain I climbed, it was the one in my backyard. One hundred acres of bushland, an impossible portion of land for even the best (my father) to ever realistically maintain.

I've not lived there in years, and yet I remember every moment, every adventure, and every trek I have made up and down its slopes and overgrown shrubbery. The friendships I made along the way will last a lifetime.

 

A little while later in life I discovered that I am an Aboriginal Australian. Heritage to tie me to the history of this country, and something I could finally identify with. Maybe this was even an answer, for the curious feeling I had every time I would return from a hike, immediately longing for the next one.

 

The mission:

 

 

 

My career as a technologist was a candle lit by a group of very, very special people.

 

I was first set up into a paid internship by CareerTrackers - an incredible company with a mission statement of assisting their Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to build a brighter future for themselves.

 

Since that day, using the principals they helped instil in me, the accomplishments I have been able to make are almost impossible to count. This has left me with an unchanging sense of urgency to join their mission in spreading as much support, awareness, and love for my culture as I physically can.

 

I aim to be the first Aboriginal Australian in history to summit Mount Everest, and I plan to do it loudly in support for my brothers, sisters, and my ancestors.

 

Summiting Mount Everest:

 

 

I've never been one to shy away from a challenge, and a challenge Everest is.

 

Mount Everest is seen as one of the ultimate accomplishments in mountaineering, a feat of strength and endurance that has seen more than 300 people lose their lives over the years. Everest rests underneath the penultimate challenge that is currently known as The Seven Summits.

 

I ask you to please reach out and help support me in my journey of bringing my culture to Nepal, where together with all my brothers and sisters, we can display what truly is possible with love, family, friends, and a deadly attitude.

Stretch goals will be fulfilled prior to leaving for the expedition, unless my doctor expressly informs me that it may affect the expedition negatively.
