Summer's fund for the Epilepsy Society

Updated story from after walk !!

50 million people world wide suffer with epilepsy and more people are being diagnosed all the time. To help raise money for the epilepsy society, I’ve decided to do a 50k walk with the support of my dad. One kilometre to represent every one million people with epilepsy. This will be taking place on the 23rd to the 24th of November which is epilepsy awareness month.

At the start of 2020, I started having vacant episodes which then led to me having a bad seizure. Not long after that, unfortunately I was diagnosed with epilepsy. Luckily mine is mild and as I take medication, I’ve been lucky enough to only have 3 more seizures since my diagnosis, although by now the doctors thought that I would have grown out of it by now. This could limit my future in ways such as driving and achieving some of my aspirations but I’ve had the best people comforting and supporting me on my journey. I always like to look on the positive side of problems and I like to hope it can clear.

During the summer holidays, I had a very unexpected seizure while I was riding, fortunately, I was lucky enough to get off the horse just in time before it happened. This made me realise on a deeper level that I may have to live my life slightly different to others and I want to prevent that happening to anyone else if I can help it.

The Epilepsy Society is leading the world in epilepsy medical research. They campaign to raise awareness of epilepsy and improve medical services for everyone affected, and they also provide a confidential helpline and free information to people with epilepsy, their families and medical professionals. Also, they offer complete re-assessment facilities and strive for seizure freedom for everyone with epilepsy.

Any donation no matter how much could help people from adults to young children have an earlier diagnosis and keep it under control to let them live worry free with nothing holding them back. Any amount would be hugely appreciated by myself and the society

Update from after my walk !

50k completed and reached over £1300 out of the £1000 target Can definitely say this is one of my proudest moments but also most difficult!

Wow, what an exciting last couple of weeks I’ve had. Publicising my GoFundMe a few weeks ago and all my family, friends, neighbours, teachers and people that I don’t even know have donated! I appreciate every penny of it and I cant thank everyone enough for donating

I think it’s safe to say I’ve never spent so much time in awful weather conditions! If it wasn’t a blizzard at 7am in the morning, it was huge gusts of wind or the heavens opened and it would chuck it down. For the people that know me, that’s just my luck but I couldn’t let it stop me !

Thankyou Dad for taking part in all of this with me and helping organise it all. I’m writing this now knowing we’ve got to go to the stables in half an hour and how we’re going to get back up off the sofa is beyond my knowledge. Think we both need new legs

Two days ago I was sent home from school after having a seizure, the first one I’ve had in months. It really scared me and I was worried I wouldn’t be able to do this walk. I knew I couldn’t let people down and I’ve had so much support and reassurance from the people close to me, they know who they are I had to do it.

I hope all the money I’ve raised can help change some peoples lives

If people haven’t yet donated who could, there is still time to and all would be appreciated by myself and the society
