Tuesday 1st July 2025 was a day our families will never forget.
A parent's worst nightmare. Those words. Those feelings. The shock, heartbreak, tears and the utter disbelief that this was reality. Imagine being told that your child has a brain tumour.
The most aggressive, rarest form, that has no cure and with a life prognosis of 12-18 months.
This was the reality for our own Daniel and Cassie and their beautiful 5yr old daughter Summer.
Summer has been diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG). A brain tumour that is impossible to surgically remove and can only be treated with radiation to prolong her life for as long as possible.
Daniel and Cassie's lives are now filled with daily hospital visits with Summer undergoing radiation treatment as well as trying to understand and process this nightmare. We're all trying to stay strong for Summer, for each other, our families and of course Summer's little brother, Jasper.
Summer is being so brave, strong and determined - our little warrior!
The next few months will be crucial for Summer. Once she has completed 6 weeks of radiation, she'll have six weeks off with no treatment where she'll be monitored for changes and hopefully improvements. She will then have another MRI scan of her brain which will determine if she'll be suitable candidate for a clinical trial to be performed in Sydney.
Never wanting to ask for help, Daniel and Cassie need our help and support more than ever to get them through what time they have left with Summer and to create treasured memories as a family.
We've decided to create this GoFundMe page to be able to collate any donations collectively in one place. Any monies raised will go towards the following:
- Funding research into finding a cure for DIPG Brain Tumours
- Donations towards the charities that are helping us - Starlight Foundation, Brainchild - Pirate Foundation, Telethon, RedKite etc
- A family holiday of Summer's choice to make the most amazing memories
Summer is Brave, Strong & Beautiful.
Daniel and Cassie are being incredibly strong and doing everything they can to help their little girl but they need everyone's support!
Get creative, challenge yourself, get the kids baking or donate your coffee's for a month - every little bit will help.
