Hey everyone,
My cousin Summer was recently attacked on the Metro in LA.
She was punched in the head from behind, completely unprovoked.
She was on the ground begging for help while passengers did nothing, When she got loud enough, 1 man finally hit the emergency button and another retrieved her purse.
That alone is heartbreaking. But here’s what makes it heavier.
This isn’t the first time her brain has taken trauma.
Years ago, she was in a serious car accident and suffered a brain bleed. She never fully got the care she needed, and she’s been quietly pushing through symptoms most people couldn’t function with… headaches, dizziness, fatigue, confusion, memory loss, depression, intense sensory overload.
If you’ve ever met her, you wouldn’t know it. She still shows up, performs, teaches, creates. She’s one of the most talented and driven people I know.
But this recent attack took things past her breaking point and she can’t just “push through” anymore.
She finally got a full brain scan and the results confirmed what she’s been living with for years… traumatic brain injury & multiple concussions that need real treatment to heal.
A second blow to an already damaged brain doesn't just add to the injury but compounds it, leaving her worse off than after the original accident.
The good news is there is a path forward.
The hard part is that she is completely on her own.
She has already lost a month of work and will need to take the next two months off to focus on treatment not covered by insurance. She is unable to sing or gig, and has been paying out of pocket for rides to every appointment since she's not taking the Metro!
I am asking for your support for her. If we all chip in, we can show her she is not alone. Once the Summer we know and love is back, we can say we helped her get there. It takes a village.
She is undergoing a series of intensive neurological treatments and has already spent over $6,000 out of pocket on appointments, transportation and basic survival.
Note: Emergency room costs are being handled separately through financial aid and/or insurance and will not come out of this fund. Every dollar raised goes directly toward her neurological treatment, recovery and living expenses while she is unable to work full time.
If you’ve ever been in a place where you needed support, you know how hard it is to ask.
She didn’t plan for any of this. She didn’t want attention from it. But now that her story is getting out, people are asking how to help… so here it is.
If you can contribute, even a little, it genuinely matters.
If you can’t, sharing this campaign goes a long way.
If you like to sing you could also download her awesome
DAILY VOCAL EXERCISES.
She truly is an amazing vocal coach with 28 years of coaching experience.
Any amount beyond what she needs to heal will go toward a Docu-series she started BEFORE this latest injury.
Her goal is to bring visibility to this invisible injury affecting 10 million annually worldwide.
If you know Summer, you already know… she’s the kind of person who gives everything she has to others. This is one of those moments where she could use that same support back.
Thank you for reading this and for showing up in whatever way you can.
