Summer Books for SDWD Readers
Donation protected
Today, a collaborative network with the support of the School District of Wisconsin Dells, is launching a fundraiser to give summer reading books to struggling readers to help build their own home library and prevent summer reading loss.
Over half of the students in the School District of Wisconsin Dells come from low-income households that struggle to pay for basic necessities such as housing, food, and clothing. These families have little disposable income to buy books for their children. Studies show that the majority of low-income students do not own any books in the home and have no books to practice their reading over the summer.
Students that do not have books in their home lose an average of two months of reading achievement over the summer. To combat this problem, research shows students can maintain or increase their reading levels. by merely giving them books to read over the summer.
This year we are fundraising for 90 elementary kids from Spring Hill, Neenah Creek and Lake Delton Elementary Schools that struggle with reading and can't afford to not practice this summer.
Our goal for this campaign is to raise $1,500 by May 1st. We need your help to make it happen. A $20 donation will buy at least five brand new books for one student.
Would you be willing to make a special donation of $20 to sponsor a student? Or $40 to sponsor two students? Any amount will help us reach our goals to stop summer reading loss and to build home libraries.
We simply can't do this without the help from the community. Recently, other districts, such as DeForest and Madison, have recognized the seriousness of summer reading loss and already started community campaigns to give students summer books. Let's make Wisconsin Dells the next community!
Thank you so much for your support. We are so lucky to live in such a generous community.
