Two 40ft Containers for Classrooms

We have recruited four full-time teachers to increase learning capacity. There is an urgent need to reduce class size, and the most practical way to achieve this is by repurposing and remodeling containers. We also need laptops and tablets for our teachers. Your continued support is urgently needed and greatly appreciated!

Following the success of the summer program pilot in July/August, BRG has entered into an MOU agreement with the State government to continue our Public-Private-Partnership education intervention initiative. We are taking baby steps toward achieving our vision to create educational equity in Africa, focusing on primary and secondary education. We are relieved and excited that the Nigerian government is receptive to our collaboration proposal. The average class size in the public school system in Nigeria is 100 to 1, student-teacher ratio. This is precisely the situation in Simawa High School that we just adopted. Your support is urgently needed and would be greatly appreciated.

We thank our donors for supporting the 'Pilot Summer Program' launched in Simawa High School this past August. The program was a big success, and as a result, a diaspora group, Beyond Remittance Group, BRG, has adopted the school and plans to focus on the target group, SS1 students. The main objective is to reduce class size to at least a 50/1 student-teacher ratio, a 50% reduction compared to the current set-up of over 100/1 student-teacher ratio. We estimated around $175,000 to build additional classrooms (repurpose containers), hire more teachers, build a computer lab, provide drinking water, etc. Understanding that it'd take a while to achieve our mission, we have developed an action plan in order of priority and optimization. To this end, our next goal is to raise funds for teachers' salaries, course materials and daily lunch for the students for the 2022/2023 school session, estimated at $35,400. We believe that structuring the intervention in an incremental phase would be more effective and yield a better measurable outcome. We welcome the following in-kind donations: laptops, tablets and smartphones. Our website www.beyondremittance.org is under construction.

Forty-five minutes drive from the megacity Lagos, Simawa High School is one of the poorest public schools in Nigeria. The school infrastructure is dilapidated, and the classes are overcrowded, with a ratio of 100/1 students-teacher. There aren't enough seats, so some students must stand throughout lectures. There aren't any books on site, hence no library. The needs are overwhelming, but we have to start somewhere. I've joined a diaspora team to adopt the school, and we have developed a framework and a comprehensive plan to help improve the quality of education in this school. We are starting a "Reading and Writing" summer program in mid-July through August 2022, targeting 300 students transitioning to SS1 (an equivalent of Junior High School in the U.S.) in September. We need your financial support to cover the expenses. The funds will cover books, writing materials, teachers' salaries, accommodation, transportation and food.
