Summer Pre-College Course At Columbia University

Hi, my name is Wyatt Walters, and I'm fundraising to attend Columbia University this summer for computer science. I’m a rising senior at Montgomery Bell Academy. In the summer of 2020, I had a realization about myself: I wanted to become a software engineer. I became enamored with the underlying foundation of programs, websites, and games. Instead of just looking at the surface of a cool program, I began to wonder how the people made this program. How did they set it up? Kids my age play video games. I was wondering how they would make the game. How did they make your character jump when you clicked a button? How did they make a character enter a cut scene at a certain time? My view on these types of things began to change. I wanted to become the person to help create these programs. I’ve worked on this craft in many different ways, from using courses that future software developers must use at Stanford to get their degree to studying a computer science course at MBA, but now I’m met with a great opportunity to take a 3-week pre-college coding course this July at Columbia University in New York. If I were to take this summer course that I was already accepted in, I will become almost fully prepared to make my dream become a real job in the future.
