Hi,
My name is Zoe; I am a high school Junior in Washington D.C.! This summer I am hoping to attend a 7-week intensive program at Harvard’s Secondary School. I’ve been accepted(!) but to participate in this program, I need to fundraise for the tuition.
The course I am interested in taking is “Intensive Introduction to Computer Science Using Java.” In this course, I will be introduced to foundational programming concepts and survey fundamental data structures. The program begins at the end of June through early August — 7-weeks, this means that the Secondary School costs approximately $1,820 a week, totaling $12,730. The good news is: I received $4400 in financial aid! The bad news is: I still need to pay around $8,330 to participate — this does not include the costs for travel and other expenses.
My dream is to attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology for undergraduate school when I graduate in 2020 and eventually earn a Master’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering. Attending this course at Harvard’s Secondary School will help me understand the coding language Java as well as prepare me for my AP Computer Science A class and my future as a computer scientist.
I am the president of my school's chapter of the National Honor Society. I’ve taken AP Computer Science classes, earned an internship at George Washington University in a quantum physics lab, I volunteer as a teaching assistant for CompSciConnect at the University of Maryland, and I was assigned as the Project Manager for a session of Girls Who Code.
Currently, I am a fellow with the Hirshhorn's ARTLAB, where we are using different mediums to create a project based on women's accomplishments in history. I also attended an ID TECH camp at Georgetown University with a scholarship from STEMLY. I learned how to use MAYA, a 3D modeling software, and implemented my creations into a game editor.
If I am able to raise the $8,330, it will solely be used towards the cost of the course and room and board. If I am not able to raise 60% of the funds -- your money will be refunded.
