Sarah's Summer at Brown & Smith
Thank you to everyone who has already donated and shared this fundraising page with family and friends.
The Story:
Brownstone Tutors has been working with Sarah Bell over the past two years and we have achieved so much together. Coming from a public middle & high school, Sarah was able to earn a full scholarship to attend the Rudolf Steiner School - a competitive private Waldorf school.
Now, Sarah has yet another wonderful opportunity that is within reach. After an extensive application process, she has been accepted to two prestigious summer programs: the Brown University Leadership Institute and the Smith College Young Women’s Writing Workshop. Not only that, she has received scholarships for both! These awards already cover the majority of the tuition for both programs.
All that is holding her back from attending these programs is $1850. The opportunity these pre-college experiences afford Sarah is really immeasurable. Not only will she be able to form relationships with higher ed institutions that she is interested in attending, she will also gain valuable experiences that will further her educational career. Sarah is particularly passionate about social justice and writing, and these programs will uniquely allow her to delve into these interests.
Any contribution to her education would be most appreciated!
The Goal:
The goal is to raise $1850 by May 19th to enable Sarah to attend these summer pre-college programs at Brown University & Smith College. All of the funds raised will go towards paying the remainder of her tuition fees.
The Details:
We have had the opportunity to work with Sarah Bell over the past few years sponsoring her tutoring and admissions guidance. Under the mentorship of Bryn Bliska, one of our exceptional tutors, Sarah has flourished.
The results were impressive to say the least:
● Received a full scholarship to the Steiner School from The J.L. Greene Foundation
● Maintained good grades
● Admitted to two prestigious summer programs & received scholarships from both

More About Sarah:
After attending Great Oaks Middle School and completing her freshman year at High School of Fashion Industries, Sarah transferred to Rudolf Steiner where she is soon to finish her sophomore year. An avid activist, Sarah is a member of the Teen Leadership Council at the Studio Museum in Harlem and the Youth Leadership Council at the Lower East Side Youth Opportunity Hub. She also participates in Steiner’s Venus club, a social justice discussion and action group, and will be attending the upcoming Annual Multicultural Student Leadership Conference hosted by the Diversity Awareness Initiative for Students (DAIS). Last summer, Sarah attended the Sadie Nash Summer Institute for young female leaders in NYC, and in the prior year she was selected to work at the New Museum through their Teen Apprentice Program.
Who We Are:
Brownstone Tutors is one of New York City's premier sources for test prep and academic coaching. Our vision is straightforward and simple: we offer students and parents the kind of services that we would want from a tutor. More specifically, we offer an exceptional level of service by maintaining an exceptional team of tutors.
As an organization, we believe in helping all children succeed - including those from underserved communities. Every year we partner with the NY Public Library and YWCA to provide pro-bono tutoring for kids from low income families who can truly benefit from test preparation and a form of mentorship.
