Sumi's Emergency Care Fundraiser

It is with deep sadness we announce Sumi has crossed the rainbow bridge. The vet strongly suggested euthanasia after reporting no change or no prospective changes to Sumi’s condition after 14 hours in the ER. We would now like to channel the funds raised to assist us with the cost of her palliative care. The total was around $1,020. We are keeping the initial goal of $1,800 to cover gas, loss of income from work, and burial expenses.

About Ikasumi & History:

Sumi came to us unexpectedly, after feeding her pregnant stray mother for 3 months. We first rescued her from using her first of nine lives when we yanked her from an abandoned house next door. She’d somehow found herself in a trash can full of filth under the house in a crawl space - water and other dead remains of animals. We named her Ikasumi (squid ink in Japanese) and reunited her with her brother.

Cut to today - she’s been thriving for three whole months with her brother, Kakashi, from the same litter. It’s been hard to say the least taking care of them and a 6 year old spoiled dog. But we managed. We desperately want to be able to bring Sumi home. Anything helps - we are thankful for 0.50 or $10.

The Accident:

Around 3 am on July 3rd our kitten rescue, Sumi had a freak accident where she sustained head trauma and bruised lungs when she was caught under a desk we had moved. It was immediately clear she had sustained injuries and within 10 minutes we had her en route to our only emergency vet in the area.

So far, as of July 4th, we have retained $930 in vet costs and we are beside ourselves. When we saw the cost of care we tried applying for Care Credit but were denied both together and separately. Sumi has already seen and battled death once. We don’t want her to have to go through it again.
