Sumaya's Plea

My name is Naima Hussain and I am currently in Somalia in hopes of assisting a child in need. Sumaya is a 9 year old Somali girl (who has no relation to me) suffering from what is believed to be meningitis induced brain injury. She was diagnosis with meningitis at 1 years old and was treated at a hospital in Kenya where she had fluid drained from her head. Following the treatment Sumaya began showing clinical signs of brain damage. She now requires 24/hr care. She is constantly hitting herself and engaging in self harm behaviors. Her mother recently took her to a local hospital where she was told to return home because nothing could be done for her daughter. We are hopeful that we can lessen the burden for this mother and her beautiful child by providing the essentials needed in her everyday care. We are heading to Somali in a couple of weeks and will manage her funds personally! Our initial goal is to purchase a medical helmet to protect her head from the constant self harming she endures. We also plan on providing her with a year’s supply of toiletries (she is incontinent), a comfortable bed to sleep on some therapeutically supplements that can help her with her sensory issues. Our secondary goal is to get her some medical care in India. This is where local doctors have suggested she goes for treatment. We believe she might still have fluid in her head which could explain why she is constantly hitting herself. Apart from that we are hopeful she will get an official behavioral assessment and some therapy (Physical and Occupational). This will be a long term stay and will require funds that this mother does not have. She is a single mother of 4 young children who can not work due to her daughters circumstances. We ask you to participate in this noble cause and help ease her suffering. Our first goal is $5000 but we hope to reach our final goal of $10,000 God Willing! Remember charity does not decrease wealth! No amount is too little.
