Mike has been diagnosed with Stage 3 Multiple Myeloma. It is a rare cancer that effects the blood and attacks your bones. According to a bone marrow biopsy, his condition is so advanced that it has shut down his kidneys and has broken 3 bones in his spinal cord. He currently also has an infection in his lungs. A complete skeletal xray showed multiple lesions: spine, arm, leg, and skull. He will have radiation every day next week to shrink the lesions and he has his 1st dose of Chemo today.
His kidney functions are low (less than 10%) and his electrolytes and calcium in his blood are still extremely elevated. Until the Chemo starts, the doctors won't see any type of improvement in his Kidneys. He still remains negative for COVID after 4 tests. He is not eligible for a kidney transplant as of right now because of the cancer. He has to be 5 years cancer free in order to be a candidate. Once the Oncologist is able to see how his body reacts to the chemo, the radiation, and the dialysis, she will be able to give a better prognosis on his condition.
Unfortunately, Mike currently does NOT have any health insurance. Even with State Insurance, they will not fully cover (if any) Chemotherapy. Up until 3 weeks ago, he ate healthy and exercised daily. He DID NOT even know that he was sick.
Right now he needs to fight for his life and not be burdened by any financial stress. If you can donate, please please please do! Please continue to keep him in his prayers. He is currently at St. Joseph Hospital, Orange in California.
