My mom, Sukran Tunur, lives in Turkey. Past summer she finally were able to visit us in the USA for the first time, getting a chance to spend time with her 2 year old grandson, and witness the first ultrasound of the baby grandson in the making. She promised to be back for birth.
Unfortunately, shortly after she went back to Turkey she started having very serious medical issues. For the first time in my life, my mom was bed-ridden every time I called her. After weeks of investigation and multiple doctor opinions, it seemed like we had to accept she had cancer, and it already had spread to multiple organs. While some doctors were giving her only months to live, we found a surgeon with a 94% success rate. However, her insurance only covers the 10% of medical expenses. We still would need about $25,000 in order to have her go through this very time-sensitive urgent surgery (in the next couple of weeks). The rest of the $40K is dedicated to the post-operational expenses and treatments like chemotherapy. Detailed expenses will be listed as we continue paying for them.

Malesef, annem Türkiye'de döndükten kısa bir süre sonra çok ciddi sağlık sorunları yaşamaya başladı. Hayatımda ilk kez, annemi her aradığımda yataktan çıkamıyor haldeydi. Haftalar süren doktor ziyaretlerinden ve birçok doktorun kontrolünden sonra annemin kanser olduğu ve kanserin pek çok organa yayılmış olduğu gerçeğini kabul etmek zorunda kaldık. Kimi doktorlar anneme sadece birkaç ay ömür verirlerken, tedavi başarı oranı %94 olan bir doktor bulmayı başardık. Fakat annemin sağlık sigortası bu doktorun masraflarının sadece %10'unu karşılıyor. Annemin bu acil ameliyatı olabilmesi için (önümüzdeki birkaç hafta içinde) yaklaşık $25,000 dolara ihtiyacımız var, operasyon sonrası masraflar ve kemoterapi için de yaklaşık $15,000 dolara (toplamda $40,000) ihtiyacımız var.
