Jason has spent his career helping others as a Paramedic for the San Francisco Fire Department. Unfortunately, he is now the one in need of help. Jason suffered an injury in October while serving the public on the ambulance. He injured his neck in such a way that he has not been able to work since then or even lift his 3 year old daughter. In addition, he and his wife closed on their new home just days before the injury. His wife is pregnant with their second child and due in April. He has had multiple surgeries and is currently waiting to get another MRI, pending insurance. The following is his description of the injury:
“ Injured neck on duty in early Oct. Initially Drs saw pinched nerves in c5-c6. Received a cervical epidural to calm the nerves that were causing uncontrolled spasming of the rt arm/chest/back, burning pain down back and arm, and complete rt arm/hand numbness. After procedure, symptoms got much worse. After 2nd MRI, found a massive herniated disc and several bone fragments lodged in my spinal nerves. Then a c6-c7 surgery to clean out herniated disc jelly dripping on the aggravated nerves as well as several bone fragments lodged in my spinal nerves.
Surgery was deemed a succes, however 3 weeks later the nerve/burning pain has come back and worsening each day. I cannot shrug shoulders, move arms or neck, even walk down stairs without extreme pain to cervical region and Lat muscle. Awaiting 3rd MRI to see what is wrong now. May need another surgery.”
Unfortunately, workers comp continues to postpone making a decision on his case and they have just pushed it back another 3 months. He hasn't received a paycheck since October and his reserves are almost completely wiped out. With a pregnant wife, family to support, new home and potential future surgeries, Jason still keeps a smile on his face and doesn't let it affect his positive nature.
No matter what is going on with Jason, every day he showed up to work with a smile and a good attitude. He never has anything bad to say and is always the first to help his fellow brothers and sisters, as well as the public he serves. Please help us give back to one hell of a guy, who would give the shirt off his back if someone ever needed it.
Bone fragments removed from spinal column that were impeding on his spinal nerves.
