Sugery needed for elbow recovery

Hey, my name is Nathan and I am looking for support for my partner Zuzia, who requires an elbow capsula release surgery on her left arm.

Zuzia has a degenerative eye condition which has sent her blind and due to this, in 2021 she had a fall and severely injured her left elbow. It was originally misdiagnosed as just a fracture, requiring a sling and to be held in position. Weeks later however, the left elbow joint capsular was found to be damaged as well and because it had been in a sling it was now locked at a roughly 90degree angle. Despite Zuzia having physiotherapy sessions twice a week for several months after, the elbow was unable to straighten.

She started seeing a specialist who decided to try and force the elbow straight using a turn buckle brace. This was on for 6 months and was uncomfortable and very painful. Despite there being a minor improvement, Zuzia was still unable to use her arm or straighten it to less than 45 degrees

The specialist has now informed us that the only possibility of improvement beyond this point is sugery. Due to the condition of the elbow the surgery is going to be quite complex with at least 3 months of recovery. Not only is the situation stressful for her, but very costly.

Zuzia is a very independent, outgoing and active person. Before the injury she would love to run, swim, exercise and go for long walks. She would also love to cook and bake but she hasn’t been able do to these things for over a year now. The process has been taking so long she has lost her confidence and independence. I would love to see her go back to being her adventurous, motivated self.

She has a huge heart and has so much time for everyone. She is patient, kind and helpful to everyone around her, despite the challenges life has thrown at her.

The sugery will not only enable her to use her arm again but also allow her to get a seeing eye dog, both of which will greatly increase her confidence and independence.
