Hi, I am asking for assistance for my sweet Sugar dog. In February, I became aware of a couple of dogs who were in dire need of help. It was a mama dog and her two pups, Sugar and Nutmeg. They were in a bad situation, and the owners were going to shoot them. A lovely lady in Prairie Grove took the dogs in but didn’t really have room for them. Nutmeg had already been shot and was getting medical care, and I took in Sugar. Sugar was a foster fail as she quickly adapted to life as an inside, well-cared-for, and loved dog.
Sugar was spayed, and she got all of her vaccines. She tested negative for heartworms, but her mother and sister were both positive. In the beginning stages, a dog can test negative. It was recommended that we start her on monthly flea, tick, and heartworm medication. We would retest in 6 months to ensure she was negative.
On Aug 12, I took Sugar in for that test, and unfortunately, she did test positive this time. Heartworm treatment is very expensive and is a long process for the dog. The treatment can cost upwards of $1,700. I normally don’t ask for help with things from the community, but I don’t have the funds to get Sugar her medication. I appreciate any help you can give, and all the support will go towards Sugar's treatment. Sugar is only a year and a half old, and I hope to provide her a long, healthy life. Thank you!
