The Sugar Shack isn't necessarily what you first think of - we don't make a lot of sweets. But we cook a lot of meat. And then top it with cheese (and other deliciousness). And make it into a yummy sandwich. Comfort food to make you smile.
The name Sugar Shack came from two crazy cheesy lovebirds, Theresa and Larry, who called each other Sugar (I know, original). When we got married and moved into our home in 2009, it became a destination, the Sugar Shack. Filled with love, good times, good company, and good food.
Fast forward 11 years and here comes 2020 rearing its ugly head. 2020 has been hard on all of us. Larry lost his job as a Service Manager at a reputable car dealership in April due to covid-19 and because of the circumstances, is not eligible for unemployment benefits. He had 25+ years in the car business and was seemingly destined to always work with cars. But for the last 11 or so he's been working on a way out. So what do you do when life throws you a lemon? Make something sweet. Or in our case, make something that serves some delicious meat (sandwiches)!
Food has been his passion since he was young, standing on a chair watching his Nanny cook. For the past 10 years, he has been experimenting with different recipes, trying different ingredients, determined to find the right combination. This year, we decided it was now or never. We decided to start our food truck and we jumped in with two feet. And in true 2020 form, there were challenges. The day we got her home, our AC died. It was only 100 degrees outside of course. The heat this summer has remained high, making it hard to work outside in an aluminum box. Some of the construction was unexpectedly hard - too much for the couple of us to do by ourselves safely. Unexpected inspector decisions also caught us off guard to the tune of a hefty price tag. It's not over yet and we're running out of funds for Larry's dream.
We have this dream where Larry can spend his days making food he loves and serving it to people who love it. The construction part is so close to completion, but right now, just out of grasp. It will be worth it in the end, but we need a little help.
For anyone who is able to help, we are so appreciative. For anyone who wants to help, but is in a similar predicament because - well, 2020 sucks - we understand and wish we could help.
If you are able to donate to help get us started, we plan on rewarding you with some free amazing food as well as our complete heart-felt appreciation!
