Sue's medical journey
Donation protected
Hi everyone, my name is Cathi, and I'm fund-raising for my sister Sue to help towards financial support for her.
It has been kept quiet for a little while, but, with permission from Sue, I have been given the green light to go ahead and explain what's been going on.
I hate having to write these words. No one should ever have to. About 6 weeks ago, out of the blue, with no symptoms whatsoever, a scan revealed a mass in Sue's colon. She has had numerous scans and a colonoscopy to investigate what this could be. They also discovered a mass in her liver. She was then diagnosed with Stage 4 Oligometastatic colon cancer.
The future for Sue includes 3-6 months of hard hitting Chemotherapy, then followed by surgery to her colon and liver to hopefully remove the tumours. At this stage they are treating it with the intent to cure, but they cannot guarantee that will be the case.
As you can imagine, chemo can be vary taxing on the body, requiring days off work, and possible hospital admissions. And then with surgery, she will require time off work to recover. She has next to no sick pay accrued, so every day she takes off is one days pay gone. She is very concerned about not being able to meet financial necessities such as rent (which, has just gone up $50 a week!!!), bills, parking for hospital appointments etc.
I know things are tough in this economy with the cost of living crisis we are experiencing, but if it's possible, can we all dig deep to ensure my sister Sue can go through treatment and surgery without having the added stress of missing income?
She is much loved, and well taken care of by her family, and this will help so so much to know she won't have unnecessary stress.
Love you Sue xxxx
