Sue's Fight Against Leukemia

This go fund me account has been setup for Susan Van Pelt. For those of you who do not know Susan, she is a loving mom and Grammy to many grandchildren, including one arriving in August. On June 12, 2017 Susan's life took a hard turn. Susan found out she has Chronic Myelomonocytic Leukemia (CMML), a rare form of cancer that has a survival rate of 30-40% in elderly/children. She had not been feeling well for awhile, but kept brushing it off until the love of her life, Bob, insisted that she see a doctor or he would cancel his own doctors appointment for health issues that he deals with as well. Susan made an appointment and had a blood test taken. The results came back and she received a phone call from her doctor requesting she immediately come to their office. After telling her the devastating news, she was sent directly to the hospital. They were on the verge of sending her to Portland the same day she got the news but decided to do a bone marrow sample first. After almost 2 weeks of waiting for appointments and results she finally got to speak with a doctor yesterday that informed her that she had CMML. Being that CMML is so rare and even more so in her age, they are unable to do any treatments in Medford- everything must be done in Portland. While we are still waiting to hear from the doctor in Portland, treatment will begin as we can find a bone marrow donor. She will either start with a trial, if available, or induction chemotherapy. Induction chemotherapy will last for 5-7 days, followed by a bone marrow transplant, and then she will have to stay near the Portland Hospital for 100 days. She will obviously be unable to work as her job is in Medford. She has her home listed for sale to try to reduce bills, but without working will be very strapped financially. A donation of any kind would be appreciated beyond words to help her during this time, and prayers for Susan and her family would be even more so appreciated.
