Sue's Crew

We are fundraising for our mother Sue Hankins, who recently lost her husband unexpectedly in July 2022. During the past several years, Sue has taken care of her mother, who is now in a nursing home and is remarkably 102 years old! While caring for her mother, she was tasked with tending to her disabled husband. Her husband, Nick, became disabled after a couple of motorcycle accidents requiring multiple surgeries and extended hospital stays. Throughout all of this, she was laid off from her employer and began working, at times, three part-time jobs. Although struggling financially, working part-time provided flexibility to attend medical appointments and to be present to speak with the hospice nurse overseeing her elderly mother. One can only imagine the energy this consumes and the stress of financial worries. It's been emotionally draining year after year. Sue has never been one to reach out for help. In fact she is selfless and would instead help you than help herself. On that hot July afternoon, we learned of the sudden and unexpected passing of her husband Nick Hankins. It became abundantly clear that mom needs help. Over the years of taking care of everyone, things such as repairs to her house were put off. It's been a struggle balancing the mortgage while paying bills. The air conditioning in her car is out, and the car needs new brakes, a tune-up and new tires. During a hot St. Louis summer, we know the discomfort of a failing A/C. We are attempting to get mom back on her feet after many years of devotion with little income. The funds would be used to make repairs to her house. The kitchen needs to be finished after being in constant construction. The carpet needs to be replaced. The walls need a fresh coat of paint, and her car needs brakes, tires, and air conditioning. Some of the bills need to be caught up. With the passing of her husband and her mother now in a nursing home, there is an opportunity for change. A chance to breathe. An opportunity to help take care of mom. Help provide a better life.
