"As one person we cannot change the world, but we can change the world of one person."
On November 5th, 2018 Sue Chipman Stewart, a loving and caring Mother of four, Daughter, Sister, Aunt, Niece, Cousin, Dear Friend and Co-worker was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. At the end of November, she underwent surgery to see how far along this devastating disease had progressed. The news was not good; the disease was farther along than anticipated. And so began the roller coaster ride of seeing Cancer Treatment Specialists, Doctor’s appointments, procedures etc. The urgency of starting treatment was top priority not only for Sue but for her Cancer Treatment Team as well.
The first chemotherapy session was on January 15th, 2019. Sue was told by her Oncologist that it would be a very strong "cocktail" in order to get control of the cancer. Anyone who has experienced chemotherapy treatments, or knows someone who has, realizes that it is not a pleasant experience. It wreaks havoc on body and mind. Sue faced the procedure bravely and with her usual wonderful, quirky sense of humour. Right from the beginning, her mantra became "keep the faith and keep on laughing".

Sue and her family share a passion for music and entertaining. Her father and brother (both are Gary’s and are professional musicians). With them, Sue and her sister Carol have volunteered and entertained for various events. They volunteer their time and talents, rarely say no and ask for nothing in return.
The same week Sue had her first chemotherapy treatment she received the sad news that, after a 13 month battle with the same cancer Sue herself has been diagnosed with, Leanne her cousin had passed away. With a heavy heart, she mustered the strength to sing with her family for her cousin’s funeral. Very brave and loyal to family indeed.
On January 20th, 2019, things began to change very quickly. Sue became seriously ill early that Sunday evening and was taken to the Emergency Department of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. She was admitted to the Oncology Unit where she remained, a very sick girl, until her discharge home on February 1st, 2019. Until that time, Sue had not absorbed the reality of how devastating this disease could be. Sue is now facing numerous chemotherapy treatments over the coming months with understandable trepidation considering her first experience. Besides this, she will also be receiving a minimum of 25 radiation treatments and a monthly chemo injection for the remainder of one full year of treatment.
This terrible disease called cancer does not discriminate. The treatment is aggressive and draining. There are days when you don’t have the strength to get out of bed; you can’t eat because you are too sick. After just one treatment, and due to significant side effects, Sue spent 12 days in hospital. She lost 22 pounds. She lost her hair and is bravely facing the world without it nor complaint. However, what she does not realize is that the people who truly know her are saying, and have always said, "she is a beautiful person both inside and out...and continues to be".

Sue is no stranger to very serious health issues as she has been introduced to same through her youngest child, Kezley. Kezley was diagnosed with CysticFibrosis at the age of three months. Sue has worked diligently as a Mom throughout the years in order to keep Kezley as healthy as possible while trying to balance her time with her daughter Sydney, only 2 years old when Kezley was diagnosed as well as her two step children, Jacqueline and Matt. There have been several hospitalizations and trips off Island over the years for Kezley to see specialists and receive treatment.
Sue (a.k.a Mary Susan, Susan, Mary, Susie, Susie Q, Suey, Ally Mosie and Q!) has met many people over the years through schooling, her family, friends, volunteering and her work experiences. In her early years she worked at COOP Grocery, Towers Mall, Smuggler’s Jug as a bartender then moved on to CIBC, Bank of Nova Scotia, Tour Guide for the Double Decker Bus, Paderno, Sobey’s and most recently she did contract work cleaning at the Provincial Building. There were times in Sue’s working career when she worked multiple jobs at the same time in order to support her family, never worrying about herself, she was only concerned about the well being of her children.
Sue is well known and well loved by all. Her sense of humour, quite frankly, is unbelievable! Many have said she "missed her calling" she is that funny!! Family has always been very important to Sue. She always says she feels blessed to still have her Mom, Dad, Sister and Brother who she refers to as her "first fam". However she is especially devoted to, and grateful for her children, her "heart and soul", Sydney (24 yo, living in Ontario), and Kezley (22yo, living at home) whom she has raised as a single Mom since they were 3 and 5. Very dear to Sue, as well, are her two step children Jacqueline and Matt who remain in her life to this day.
To have Sue Chipman Stewart’s love, affection and friendship is to have it for life.
Sue has not been able to work since November of 2018, she has no medical insurance and little to no money coming in. She will be unable to work during her treatment and recovery. Many people have reached out to offer help and many have asked if they could offer financial support during this time of need. It is our hope that this page will create that opportunity in order to assist Sue with day to day living expenses for herself and Kezley. Any donation or words of support will help Sue and keep her from worrying about finances. We want Sue to be surrounded by positivity so she can focus on healing, "keeping the faith and keep on laughing" while she puts all of her energy toward beating this cancer and becoming a "SURVIVOR".
Let’s come together to help Sue by showing our love and support any way we can during this difficult time - Thank you so very much!
