A rock to everyone who had the fortune of knowing him, Schalk's life was a living testament to his profound faith, the love he had for his dear wife, Merle, and his unshakeable spirit.

Tragically, just a week after he arrived in the United States, Schalk faced unexpected health challenges. Despite being the epitome of health, he was suddenly hospitalized with severe breathing difficulties and lung pain. His condition rapidly worsened, leading to his peaceful passing on January 29th, 2024.

Schalk had no health insurance or employment in the US, leaving his wife, Merle, with significant hospital bills and financial burdens in a new country.
