Hello, my name is Cortney. On Saturday, June 14th, the day before Father's Day, I was contacted by the police that my dad had passed away in his home. I live 2 1/2 hours away from my dad and found myself racing against time to beat the funeral home to his house to be able to see my dad before they got to his house to take him away. My whole world collapsed with that one phone call. My dad was only 59. He was in remission for bladder cancer and had just undergone surgery in May to stop internal bleeding caused by the radiation he had the prior year. Despite his medical conditions, my dad seemed so healthy. His death was so sudden and completely unexpected. My dad didn’t have a life insurance policy in place, which has left my sister and me in a financial bind trying to figure out how we are going to afford the cost to lay him to rest. Since Saturday, I have had to travel round trip 3 different times trying to get everything arranged for his funeral/cremation, along with having to pay for a U-Haul from Charlottesville, VA to my house in West Virginia to bring his belongings to my house. My financial situation isn’t equipped to cover all the expenses I am now faced with, as I will have to figure out how I’m going to pay for his cremation along with the fuel cost to get back and forth to Charlottesville, VA, which is 157 miles one way from my house. I’m not one to ever ask for help but at this point, I will swallow my pride to make sure my daddy is able to be laid to rest.
