Sudanese Women Refugees In Cairo Egypt
Donation protected
Sudan has been going through a war since April 15, 2023, caused by two large military groups fighting for power. The war has forcibly displaced over 4 million people. The UNCHR has stated that the “needs far outweigh what is humanly possible to deliver with available resources”. There are currently so many people in need of vital assistance and not enough people trying to help (mainly looking at the international community). I am specifically trying to help the women and children who have been forced to flee to Cairo (Egypt). Sabah Adam, my friend, and more importantly an incredible Sudanese women’s rights activist, with who I was working following my thesis last year (on women's rights in Sudan) is one of these women. She has been informing me of the ongoing conflict and the devastating reality. There are hundreds of thousands of Sudanese refugees now in Egypt or waiting at the border to get in (Egypt has recently tightened border restrictions with some who have been at the border for months suffering in the heat without food, water, or shelter). Those (mainly women and children) who have been ‘lucky’ enough to get past the border (without their husbands) and find a place to live are now running out of money (as the war has been going on for 4 months and living prices in Egypt are dramatically increasing) and have no choice but to return to Sudan. These women are Sabah’s friends, and it is these women I am desperately trying to get money to, so they do not have to take their children back to the place of ongoing conflict which they risked their lives to escape. It is important to note that the UN has voiced particular concern for women and girls caught up in the conflict, amid "shocking incidence of sexual violence, including rape.". And so returning to Sudan really should not be an option.
I know it can be hard to comprehend these horrible issues as it feels too cruel to be true, so far from home, and the media coverage has been abysmal, but please just try to think about it for a second. We are literally just raising money to help these women and children afford the necessities to live in the face of a situation completely out of their control. Even if you can just donate the money you would spend on a coffee today, it would be very much appreciated. Perhaps even take the time to do your own research or have a conversation about it with even one other person. This all makes a difference. All it takes is for you to care a little, just enough, to do something.
Any donation made will be going straight to these women who need it. I have raised and transferred money directly for/to Sabah before which she used to host various education and awareness sessions on women’s rights, FGM/C & Underage Marriage across Sudan (I have attached the report she wrote on this if you are interested). So, I can assure you the money is going into the correct hands. I am also planning on flying to Egypt myself (in 2 weeks) to help out in some way, so the money will no doubt be delivered. Hopefully, I can keep you all updated on what’s happening.
Thank you for getting this far, you rock.

INFORMATION FOR GOFUNDME GUIDELINES:
I am Taylor Ireland, a woman from Australia. I recently completed my thesis at the University of Sydney which focused on Western intervention in Sudan, specifically looking at FGM/C policies. The money I am raising will be sent either electronically or delivered in person by me to one of the women I worked with to complete my thesis (Sabah Ahmed - a women's rights activist from Khartoum who has fled to Cairo). I have raised and sent money to her before. Once the money has been received, it will be used by the Sudanese refugees to afford to stay in Cairo (incl. rent, health care, food, water, etc.) Thanks.
