Successville Books for Our Kids

Donation protected
This fundraiser is for Piedmont Avenue Elementary School in Oakland, California and the 350 students, 35+ staff and our fantastic Piedmont Ave. Reading Tutors. The students at our school come with diverse backgrounds, cultures, languages, and families. As educators, community members, parents, and a school community we embrace the diversity among our community and honor all children we teach.

Our students have been amazing and have handled all the challenges of being virtual for almost a year now. This year, we want to surprise our students and staff at the end of our 6th Annual Reading Week.

Our special surprise is Noah Harris, who has an amazing and inspiring story. He is currently a Junior at Harvard and is the first black male student body president. He grew up in Hattiesburg, Mississippi and is passionate about motivating the youth to reach for their dreams. The other amazing part of Noah's story is that he wrote a book called "Successville" for kids all while still being a college student himself.

Noah has graciously agreed to come and do a virtual INTERACTIVE assembly with our students. It will be the Grand Finale of Reading Week.

However, that is not where we want this surprise to end....we want to be able to give every student, staff/teacher and tutor their very own copy of his book to be inspired by.

The hope is that teachers will do a read-aloud with their class of the book during Reading Week, have a class discussion, and even have a few activities related to it. There will be several contests throughout the week and winners from each class will get an opportunity to pre-record a special question for Noah that he can answer during the assembly.

This is an incredible opportunity for our students. We are excited that it can happen at the end of February where our students will be celebrating the accomplishment of Black History, exploring literacy activities during Reading Week and throughout the month of March (official reading month) and that it can also help motivate and excite the school for the PAES Fundraiser -Read-A-Thon which will also happen in March.

We need your donation to help us get a copy of Noah's Book "Successville" to all our students.
