It is with regret that I have to ask for assistance. However, the sudden illness of a loved one has led me to seek donations. My daughter, Mercedes Matos Heide, is suffering from a severe Crohn’s Flare. Mercedes recently delivered a baby girl, who needed immediate medical procedures done. I came out to stay with her and her two children while her husband was deployed and I was there when she delivered the baby. Thankfully, the baby is thriving now and I had just returned back to VA when Mercedes' health began to worsen and she has been suffering from a severe Crohn’s disease flare since.
Mercedes'liver enzymes have increased and she has to go into the hospital for a liver biopsy. Due to loss of blood through bodily function, Mercedes has become very anemic and it is likely she will need a blood transfusion. Mercedes blood labs are not looking good per her doctor. Mercedes is becoming weaker each day. Her weight has also plummeted, because she is unable to eat-without it causing her pain.
Mercedes was first diagnosed with Crohn’s disease when she was 15 years old and her medications worked up until recently. Due to the complications with the birth of her third child it caused a severe Crohn’s flare complications in postpartum. Mercedes is living in a small town in California. Mercedes moved there with her husband and two other children in May 2018. The town they live in is very isolated and can not accommodate the severity of Mercedes health needs. The Central Valley Hospital where she lives does not specialize in the severity of her Crohns and has forwarded her care to a hospital in San Francisco due to the severity of her Crohn’s disease. The hospital is a 3-hour drive one way from their home and with the high cost of living in California, their savings are depleted.
Mercedes has shared that, “I think my lung nodules are back because it hurts. Everything hurts; my skin, my joints from the skin nodules, my chest (not my heart I know the difference), my abdomen, etc. I actually prayed for God to hit me with everything and don’t ease up yesterday before bed, so that they could find stuff when I was admitted. But I woke up in so much pain, so I know he answered my prayer. It’s just like am I going to be able to live with this amount of pain until Thursday. I don’t remember being in pain everywhere and even if I did I probably blacked it out in my mind in the hospital or I was delirious. I know I can shove it down though through mediation and put a smile on for the girls.”
Mercedes is requesting that I return to California with her failing health, but I’m unable to afford the expense of the trip to California., I’m disabled and a stroke survivor. Mercedes is very grateful to anyone who is willing to contribute any amount.
Mercedes is seeking any donation to help make the goal of $5,000 which would cover my last minute plane ticket from Virginia to California, assisting with cost for hiring a babysitter for her two children who are 2 and 4 years old, her hospital stay and for transportation to San Francisco UCSF Medical Center. The money will also assist with hotel accommodations for her husband and I while we stay in San Francisco, as we will have to care for the 2 month old baby while alternating care with Mercedes during the hospital stay and any procedures. San Francisco is very costly and we can not afford the higher cost of living.
If you are able to donate $1, it will mean so much. Please pray for Mercedes and her healing.
Peace and Love,
Deborah
