Please help save Petunia!
Petunia is a 4 year old English Bulldog we rescued from a puppy mill about a year ago. When we first met this little lady- she was in ROUGH shape but we took one look into her big eyes and quickly fell in love. Despite her physical and emotional scars from three years of obvious neglect and mistreatment, Petunia has made amazing progress. This past year she has learned how to go potty outside, she can now walk on a leash, has recently began to play with toys and most importantly she has learned to love and trust people! She is a cherished member of our family.
On Wednesday, March 17th Petunia woke up vomiting everywhere. We took her to our vet on an emergency visit. After two hours petunia started having trouble breathing. Our vet had us rush her to Cornell Animal Hospital for emergency treatment.
Petunia was diagnosed with aspiration pneumonia and spent 3 days in doggie ICU receiving IV fluids, Antibiotics and oxygen treatment. She has been released from the hospital and is now breathing on her own but Petunia has a long road to recovery ahead of her.
Cornell is saying her recovery from the pneumonia will take 4 weeks. She is on 4 different medications and will need to be closely monitored. This will include a few check in visits at her regular vet.
Once she is recovered, she will need to go back to Cornell for a surgery on her respiratory system in order for her to live a long and healthy life. (The procedure she needs is for brachycephalic airway syndrome, as well as gastroplexy surgery to treat a Possible sliding Hiatal Hernia).
Currently her medical bills have quickly amounted to Well over $3000 between her visit to the vet and her ICU stay at Cornell. Her surgery is currently being estimated to cost another $3,000 - $6,000 dollars. (This does not include Pre surgery visits which include a sedated consultation exam as well as follow up appointments after the surgery.)
The good news is that Cornell is saying She has a great prognosis for the surgery and with it she will live a normal healthy life.
Jaydee and I have been absolutely blind-sided . This year has been incredibly tough with losing our sweet Bentley boy and Tia girl. (which also unfortunately came we a few Cornell visits and unexpected expenses).
Usually, we are well equipped to handle these types of things but $6,000 to $8,000 is something that we are not financially prepared for due to the unforeseen vet bills we already accrued early this year. We are absolutely drained and devastated by this And were exhausting all of our resources.
We are swallowing all of our pride and asking for help as our resources are quickly depleting.
Petunia deserves the world and NEEDS this surgery to happen, so she may live out many more happy years!! I know this year has been. incredibly hard for everyone but our family would be forever grateful for any help we can get to save our precious girl. ❤️
