In late February, my friend Su Jean, at 28, was diagnosed with nasopharynx carcinoma - a form of cancer found behind the nasal cavity. At the time she was in school to become a dental hygienist however due to circumstances she would be unable to be in school while receiving treatment so she has had to put her life on hold, and will have to pay substantial additional costs to return to school after recovery. Despite this, she has kept up a positive attitude and is staying strong and getting through it as best possible. Following initial diagnosis in February, Su Jean has recently found out that it is stage 3 and will be undergoing quite intensive treatment. It will make it more difficult for her not only in healing, but she will be unable to maintain any supplemental income. This combined with the fact that she is a former student, and is not eligible for assistance such as EI makes it all the more difficult for her. Anyone that knows Su Jean knows that she is kind, outgoing, and hardworking. Although she would never want any of her friends or family to worry about her, I feel that these challenges for her would be so much easier without all of the Financial burdens, and I know that with everything Su Jean has and would do for anyone, she is so deserving of support during this time so she can focus on her health.  The $50,000 would help with rent, utilities, phone, groceries, and transportation for the minimum 9 months needed for recovery as well as the difference she would need to resume school.
