For those of you who know Dustin and I, you know that we are very independent people and we don't typically like to ask for help. Despite being newly married and trying to enjoy our new life together, we've experienced a lot of financial troubles over the last year, causing us to put everything we couldn't afford on our credit cards. This past week we sat down at a bank to obtain a personal loan so that we can pay off our debt rather than continuing to make payments that are cancelled out by interest accruing every month. This loan will take us five years to pay off. So at this point, we are not in a position where we can afford additional expenses.
However, unexpected financial expenses always occur when you can't afford it. Fast forward to this morning.... I woke up at 5am and instantly could tell that we needed to get our sweet boy, Stu to the emergency vet. When I found him, he could barely walk and I could tell he was suffering from immense pain. I immediately got him into his carrier and brought him in to be seen. Upon my arrival, I was informed that he had a blockage that was not allowing him to go to the bathroom. The situation was an emergency. I was given an estimate of $3789.99-$4190.99. I was forced to make the decision to either get him the medical care he so desperately needed knowing that I had no way to pay for it, or to say goodbye to our sweet little guy forever. Stu is not even two years old yet, as his birthday is June 1st. I could not bear the thought of losing such an important piece of our family. I was able to get a line of credit so that I could cover the costs associated with saving him.
He was taken in immediately and is currently being monitored for the next 48 hours. They updated me to let me know that they had some difficulty getting the catheter in, but that he is back to producing a healthy amount of urine. He is on fluids and pain meds. According to his recheck bloodwork, one of his kidney values is slightly elevated. They are continuing to keep a close eye on him but so far, he is doing well.
This brings us to creating this Gofundme. I never thought we'd be in a position where we'd have to ask for help like this. I know that times are hard right now for all of us. If anyone is able to spare a few dollars, it would truly help our little family more than you know.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Love,
Allie and Dustin DiBiase.
