Stunted

The hardest moments of life are the ones that exist in between big decisions when everything can change instantly. When the path you choose means losing every other possibility, it’s hard to know if you’re making the right decision. Stunted is rooted in this universal experience of feeling overwhelmed but having to choose a path despite that fear. It takes place in one of the earliest moments most people start having to take responsibility for their lives—college admissions.

Hi, I’m Sylvia Vargas! I’m the writer/director of Stunted, a film inspired by making difficult life-altering decisions in my own life and hearing about those same struggles in those around me. My inspiration for the story comes from deciding to transfer to UCSB as a film major and leave everything behind to pursue what I am truly passionate about. With my impending graduation this spring of 2024, I have experienced and will continue to have periods of life where the future is uncertain, which I feel is a universal experience.

What is the money for?

Making a film is only possible with a team of passionate people to make it come to life. It is an inherently collaborative process that requires support not just from the crew, but from YOU as well, who want to be a part of telling it. Any contribution is greatly appreciated and even simply sharing and spreading the word is helpful. All the funds we raise for this project will go towards renting high-quality camera gear and lighting, securing locations, hiring professional actors, and ensuring safety for our crew during the whole shooting process.
