Background: Tropical Ecology Student Field Trip
As part of their curriculum, 10 dedicated junior and senior college students at Fairleigh Dickinson University are taking Tropical Ecology at Fairleigh Dickinson University, NJ. This course includes a field component to the world’s most biodiverse place on the planet, the Yasuni region in Ecuador. Elise Morton and I, Harald Parzer, at FDU, will lead this intercultural field trip with the fantastic team at the Tiputini Field Station and wonderful colleagues from the Universidad of San Francisco de Quito (USFQ).
Field Station
Students will spend more than a week in the midst of the Amazon, staying at an astonishing local field station, run by USFQ, Tiputini. In addition, we will also explore the high regions of the tropical grasslands and a cloud forest. We wanted to take a diverse group of students to join us for this field trip. However, several students need for various reasons financial support to be able to go. FDU generously provided scholarships, however, it is still not enough to cover the necessary costs for students to go.
The goal
We are trying to fundraise $4,000, which we will distribute to students based on their needs.
Our goal to give every students the opportunity to experience the astonishing Amazon region, learn about other cultures, and explore the beauty of biodiversity and its many threats. Most of all, we would like all participants to share their excitement with friends and families in the USA, to make our world a better place.
